In the early seventies, Egypt experienced an explosion of western bands performing all kinds of music, Rock and Roll, Hard Rock, Country, Soul as well as European Dance Music. Rashed has been part of a multitude of bands performing in Alexandria until 1980. He abandoned the bass guitar to concentrate on singing, specializing in ballads and adult contemporary styles. He became one of the best known singers to perform in several languages.

In 1981, he released his first album (Kalam Fil Hob) where he experimented with incorporating Arabic lyrics to his own western compositions in order to add a western twist to Egyptian pop songs. He was one of the pioneers of this trend that evolved to occupy a major share of the modern Egyptian song scene.
Since his arrival to the USA, he introduced the same international band concept in Los Angeles. He formed "Alexandria Band" which performed locally and became well known in the Arabic and International communities. He then teamed with musician Nabil Selim to create a duet called "Rashed & Nabil" that performed since 1990 in all major concerts and events organized by the Arabic American TV and various International organizations such as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the Golden Globe Awards 1995 & 1996.
